Blue Ribbon Finalist: Africa Town Corridor Cleaning,  African Cultural Alliance of North America

ACANA's goal is to keep the community, especially the main corridors in Southwest Philadelphia, clean. They consistently seek external resources to help with the beautification of the corridor such as the installing of public arts and façade improvement on large scale streetscape. To this effort, the Philadelphia Streets department has completed resurfacing between 58th and 60th street on Woodland Avenue. The block in this area was badly damaged and now it has been renewed. This was achieved through the advocacy of ACANA and help from the Philadelphia 2nd Council district office.

ACANA takes the physical improvement of its corridors very seriously and even engages in efforts to discourage graffiti in the corridor to ensure safety and attract new businesses. ACANA will continue to advocate for the installation of more streetlights on Chester Avenue as well as expand its tree planting and put public seating on all the four corridors especially at traffic or trolley stops. This will involve working with the Philadelphia Street Department to enhance street red light signs and stop sign that have either been destroyed or removed. ACANA looks forward to the safety that rehabilitating their corridor brings.

PACDC congratulates ACANA for being recognized as a PACDC 2022 Blue Ribbon Award nominee!
